The Grounded in Play Committee is thrilled to announce the official launch of the Churchill Alternative Schoolyard Rejuvenation Project!
We are a group of Churchill parents and staff, and the kids that we love make use of the school’s outdoor playground every day. We recognize that it has served them well over the years, providing opportunities for gross motor development, imaginative thinking and cooperative play. But the times, they are a-changing!
Today marks the start of an exciting adventure for our whole community, because we know that at the end of it our kids will have an even better schoolyard: one that will engage them, spark their creativity and give them even more reason to love being outside.
It’s a big job, and it won’t be easy. It will take lots of hard work, more than a few great ideas and, of course, money. But there’s no doubt that, together, we can work towards a schoolyard that truly reflects the Alternative tenets that we all value so much.
We’re looking forward to working with you to bring to life a shared vision for the future of the play structure and the outdoor space that surrounds it. As we prepare to take the first steps of this journey, we’re asking for your input.
Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey to share your thoughts and hopes for the future of the project. At this point in the process, the possibilities are endless. We want to dream big and imagine what the ideal schoolyard might look like. Any ideas?
And, it doesn’t have to end there; we’re still a fairly small group and would welcome any help you may be able to offer—whether you want to volunteer, help with visioning or fundraising, donate or pitch in in some other way that we haven’t yet thought of. Drop us a line and let us know!
